    Seasons to consider for visiting Spiti Valley-

    1. Winter season (From December to February)

    The Spiti Valley transforms into a "Winter Paradise" with snow covered landscape offering a spectacular scenery. As a matter of fact, the weather conditions especially during winters can be quite harsh and griping as it is located in remote area,  travelling might get challenging so don't forget to be extremely cautious.

    • Accessibility: Due to heavy snowfall, most of the roads remain closed, with the only road available is from Shimla to Kaza which remains partially open. The condition of roads are not that good, there are steep inclines, narrow roads and there is a potential for landslides. 
    • Temperature: The region receives heavy snowfall so there will be freezing temperature with harsh climate. Temperature can drop to -40 degrees Celsius during winter season with nights being extremely cold.
    • Activities: It is better to travel during winters only if you are an experienced traveller because most of the tourists cannot handle harsh climate. For those who are experienced can enjoy activities like winter trekking (meant for seasoned adventurer), you can visit various frozen lakes or you can even visit Key Monastery- situated at hilltop look spectacular covered in snow blanket.     2. Summer season (From March to June)

Spiti Valley has a pleasant weather during summers, people can enjoy trekking, sight seeing, exploring various lakes and monasteries, it will be a treat for nature lovers if they visit during this season as mountains will be covered with lush greenery.

    • Accessibility: By mid march, generally the roads remain accessible. People can travel and explore major attractions like Key monastery, Chandratal Lake, Tabo monastery, they remain accessible during this season.
    • Temperature: The temperature remains 15-20 degrees Celsius during summers with June being the hottest month, nights are generally cool, therefore it is advisable to keep layers of clothes packed. With temperature being pleasant, it makes it easy to travel restfully.
    • Activities: Since temperature is pleasant, people can enjoy various activities like trekking, camping, exploring valleys which remain most popular among tourists. You can also do road trips or enjoy sight seeing along with Spiti river.

    a) Warm and pleasant weather especially during winters.

    b) Ideal time for outdoor activities like trekking, sight seeing etc, roads remain open and tourist spots remain accessible.

    Cons:

    a)Summers is peak tourist season, so expect crowding and make sure to book your tickets in advance.

    3. Monsoon Season (From July to September)

    Monsoon season still poses risks related to landslides as nearby areas receive heavy rainfall which can make travelling difficult. Spiti usually stays dry compared to other regions in Himachal Pradesh but risk is still there so be careful if you are thinking of travelling during this time.

    4. Autumn Season (From October to November)

    • Accessibility:  In some higher altitude areas, there might be some snowfall but generally roads remain open and visibility stays good.
    • Temperature: Daytime temperature ranges from 10-15 degrees Celsius, but during nigh time the temperature drops to -5 degrees Celsius.
    • Activities: Stunning landscapes and clear skies make it ideal for photography, for outdoor activities like trekking and camping, sight seeing it is an ideal time period but make sure to not dress lightly, pack lot of warm clothing.

    b) Skies are clear and roads are accessible, making travelling easy.

    Cons:

    a) Temperature drops drastically during night, it becomes chilly.

    b) Difficult to access higher altitude areas as there might be snowfall which might ruin road accessibility.

    1. If you are interested in photography, you should plan your visit during autumn season to get most dazzling photographs of beautiful landscape of Spiti Valley. You can also visit during Winters to capture frozen lakes, and monasteries covered in snow. You can capture live footage or photograph snow leopards and Himalayan Blue sheeps.

    2. If you want peace and solitude, you can visit during monsoon season or winter season where only few tourists travel so there will be peace and quiet, you can visit monasteries to experience peace and restful escapade.

    3. If you are interested in adventure, Summers are the best time as there is no threat of unpredictable weather, landslides, flash floods etc but for your information, this is peak time for tourism.
